Welcome to the planet.

I’d like to introduce you to a new member of the How Many Miles family.

Is it a boy? Is it a girl? Is the suspense killing you?

It’s a bike!

A shiny blue bike with gears and hand brakes! Imagine!

I have only ever been on a beach cruiser style bike: no gears, pedal backwards for brakes, all manual.

Can I just say that the new bike is a lot like heaven? I can ride so much faster and further. There is so much ease in riding. It is actually fun now!

And as much as I’m looking forward to running tommorow after my six week hiatus, I am also looking forward to riding on Thursday for my cross-training.

I think I see an El Tour de Tucson in my future. And I definitely see a Tri in my future.

The bike shop people were wonderful. The salesman listened to my chief concerns, gave me a short bike gears 101 class, helped me attach all the necessary acoutrements to the bike and gave me a steal of a price on the bike; all that and he never made a snide comment about runners and how much running sucks. And the shop offers lifetime maintenance on the bike! If you live in Southern Arizona and are in need of a bike, I would highly recommend Sabino Cycles. And they didn’t even pay me/give me a great big discount to say that.

So, welcome to our humble home, new bike. I look forward to going fast, going far, and getting a damn good cross-training workout with you in the months and years to come!
